Legal Aid Centre

The Legal Aid Centre at Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA is established with ‘Aim & Objective’ to ‘Serve legal aid, through human resource, knowledge resource, & infrastructural resource, to those who need it the most, purely on pro-bono basis’. It’s a blend of legal duty (as laid down under Rule 31 of Bar Council of India’s Rules of Legal Education, and Rule 11 of Schedule III of the said ‘rules’) of the Institute with mission of the Symbiosis International University.

The mission statement of the Symbiosis International University says that it is committed towards ‘fostering spirit of national development’, ‘instilling sensitivity amongst the youth towards the community’, ‘contributing towards knowledge generation and dissemination’, and ‘promoting ethical and value based learning’. The establishment of the Legal Aid Centre at Symbiosis Law School - Noida acknowledges that it is committed towards fulfilling its ‘institutional social responsibility’.

The above laid ‘objective’ will be achieved when those, who have knowledge, including persons from the legal profession, alumni of the Symbiosis International University, and the students, will come forward to share their knowledge, experience, and expertise with those who are in need of legal aid & support.

Participation of members of the Legal Aid Centre in various activities will make them more sensitive towards various legal issues that are being faced by the society people. It will enhance their understanding of their ‘moral duties towards the society’, which will lead to ‘sense of responsibility in nation building’.

With these ‘Aims & Objectives’, the Legal Aid Centre of Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA will be active in three directions:

LEGAL AWARENESS

Target population, as per the kind of activity, will be made more aware of the legal issue that is being taken up by members of the Legal Aid Centre. This awareness will be created through personal interaction, through pamphlets & posters, and through various other similar modes.

LEGAL LITERACY

Target population, as per the kind of activity, will be taught how to draft very basic legal documents, like, ‘writing complaint’, ‘writing application under the R.T.I. Act’, ‘drafting an affidavit’, and similar other documents.

CORE LEGAL AID

The aided person/s, as per requirement of the situation/case, will be given core legal aid, like, ‘giving advice as per the legal provisions’, ‘bringing aided person/s before legal forum/authority’, ‘presenting case of the aided person/s before legal authority/forum’, and similar other activities.

COMPOSITION

The Legal Aid Centre at Symbiosis Law School – NOIDA constitutes of a ‘Head’ of the Centre, a ‘convener’, a ‘co-convener’, and thirteen ‘Para-Legal Volunteers’. A senior faculty member is being appointed as ‘Head’, and students have been appointed as ‘Convener’, ‘Co-Convener’ And ‘Para-Legal Volunteers’.

The Centre, with all the required infrastructural facilities, is situated at Ground Floor of campus of the Symbiosis Law School – Noida; it is open six days a week (Monday to Saturday) from 9 AM TO 5 PM.

It welcomes you to come & participate, both the ways, as a resource person, or as a needy person. Let’s enrich us with your knowledge, experience, and expertise; or, let yourself be benefitted with our efforts.

Firstly, the Training and Placement Cell would like to welcome you aboard. Going forward you will realize that at the time of placements, cracking that interview, which shall lead to the offer of a job is an imperative and accentuating task. This takes more importance, as the same skill-set is required during internships as well. And this is exactly where a lot of us lose our nerve and make those mistakes which could have been avoided, had it been we knew they were coming.

Keeping this thought in mind and to equip you with interview facing skills and confidence, the Training & Placement Cell, Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA in association with External Organization organizes Workshop Cum Certification Program namely “LEAP (Learnability Employability And Productivity)” scheduled in the month of March. Fees for the Program is borne by the Law School.

During the program, each one of you shall get a chance to interact with professionals from the industry and get to know the good in you and the areas where there is scope for improvement. Thus, with a purpose to ameliorate your holistic development and professional conduct, you shall be trained on the following aspects:

  • Experiential Learning
  • Personal Branding
  • Advanced Business Communication
  • CV & Cover Letter Writing
  • Psychometric Tests
  • Email Etiquettes
  • Personal Interviews

Remember, the workshops shall go on in accordance with the schedule. You are required to block the dates on your calendar so you can make the most of the opportunity provided and that’s why we are writing to you in advance to reschedule your days accordingly.

This program is a one-time exercise, which will be administered by the prominent professionals from the related industry and during the program your performance will be evaluated and assessed with grades i.e., A, B and C. The one(s) who gets ‘C’ grade will be debarred from the placements. This program is mandatory for all those who have opted for placements. Consequently, no excuses will be entertained.

Further, the participants will be provided with the Certificate of Participation specifying the grades scored by them.

Every academic year, learners at SLS-N undergo internship twice-

  • In Winter (4-6 weeks)
  • In Summer (4-8 weeks)

We, at SLS-NOIDA, firmly believe in continuously improving the ‘Recruitment Quotient’ . Based on this, we also offer the following:

  • Long Term Internship (4th Year Learners)
  • Assessment Internship (5th Year Learners)

Each semester, learners from 4th Year undergo Long Term Internship, which is essentially Summer Internship extending into the months of July, August and September. Likewise, they can also choose to undergo Winter Internship extending to January, February and March.

Under our Internship Programme for 5th year, learners can undergo Running Internship/Assessment Internship, as a part of which they can intern throughout the academic year except during the examination period. The academic calendar is so created that learners can attend classes and thereafter go for their respective internships.

Furthermore, the practice is to have learners' intern at a law firm/Organization for a specified period extendable by mutual agreement. Based on the performance of the ‘intern’ during the agreed period, organizations present learners with a Pre-Placement Offer (PPO).

As for stipends to be paid, there is no laid-down stipulation. However, usually, under the Assessment Internship Programme, firms often offer learners monthly stipends, the exact amount paid being at the discretion of the employer.

Second Edition of Symiksha – National Parliamentary Debate Competition: September 21-23, 2019
BACKGROUND

Debating is an art that allows one to put forward opinions, open up to new ideas, indulge in active and healthy discourse and widen your world view. It helps learners to see the power of deploying rational, reasoned arguments and compelling evidence in action. It enables them to elucidate their standpoint by utilizing rhetorical eloquence. It instils in debaters a great sense of poise and confidence. It teaches them the skills of researching, organizing, and presenting information in a compelling fashion.

The beauty of debate is that it teaches the art of persuasion, the skill of identifying issues with sound logic and proposing solutions with the use of persuasive rhetoric, while enrapturing the audience.

With this in mind, we, here at Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA, took upon ourselves to organize an annual National Parliamentary Debate Competition.

With a hunger for knowledge and a drive to provide a platform to debtors, par none, we successfully organized the Inaugural Edition of Symiksha – National Parliamentary Debate Competition (Symiksha – Vaad, Vivaad, Prativaad) on January 05- 07, 2019.

The event, a huge success, saw the participation of esteemed debaters from across the nation. They indulged in dynamic, nerve-wracking debates, on motions, on themes across the spectrum, each of which was analyzed immensely and to its absolute depth.

INTRODUCTION

The Debating Society, along with the Organising Committee, is more than pleased to, and incredibly proud, to bring you the Second Edition of Symiksha, National Parliamentary Debate Competition, to carry forward and help grow the legacy which we wish to establish.

The said Competition will be a platform for debaters and adjudicators, both experienced and novices to come and be a part of the ongoing conversation on ideas and opinions prevalent, and relevant today. It will be a platform that will not only allow them to polish their oratory and argumentation skills, but also come together as the youth of the 21st century, to share their ever-changing opinions, widen outlooks, and change perceptions.

With a drive to achieve the same, we present to you Symiksha’s Second Edition, from September 21- 23, 2019.

Aparajit '20

Undefeated. Unconquered. Unbeaten.

OUR STORY

At Aparajit, we celebrate Sports as a window where you can pour in your worry, your struggles, and your prejudices; a window that exists for a brief period, but in the moment of that sheer adrenaline rush between the time you enter the field, hear people cheer your name, bear the pressure and the time you are face to face with your goal, where your final shot brings you victory. We aim at to provide three days where you can come and show the world, the result of all the hard work you put into making yourself undefeatable, unconquerable and unbeatable.

At Aparajit, we take pride on providing a platform which understands the amount of diligence and devotion you put into your passion, the reason why we endeavour to bring forth the best amenities for our participants.

Aparajit started as a small agenda on a late afternoon coffee and tea session, when our alumni’s wanted to introduce the idea of a National Sports Fest that based its principles within our intra-college sports fest, “Invenio”. From Invenio to conducting three successful editions of Aparajit, we have come a long way, however the hunger to make a better sports fest every year shall always remain.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR
Aparajit 2017: The Undefeated:

As rookies in the sports fest fraternity, we were faced with the prospect of taking the road less travelled by, we were trying to implement what we believed as sportsperson are the integral requirements in any sports fest, along with our dedication, which was the keystone behind the success of Aparajit in its first edition. It was the birth of a legacy and we were keen on continuing it till our tenure.

Aparajit 2018: The Unconquered:

In our venture to provide a better sporting experience, the second edition of Aparajit laid the foundation to a successful collaboration with Symfiesta, the cultural fest of Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA, bringing a multi-dimensional perspective into our sports fest where our participants were encouraged to give their best throughout the day on the field, and by the evening they had access to let out the stress in the company of great music and food.

Aparajit 2019: The Unbeaten:

We built upon the philosophy of bringing forth the camaraderie between cultural and sporting experience through our collaboration with Symfiesta, in our third edition we introduced “Aparajit Night” on the last day of Symfiesta and Aparajit, and we had “When Chai met Toast” close the curtains for us where we all bid goodbye to yet another edition of Aparajit.

OUR MESSAGES

We have always given our devoted hours into making an even better version of Aparajit every time. We work on the principles of bringing our very best to the table, from your accommodation to your travel and your food, we try to carve the most comfortable situations for our participants because we value the time and effort you put into your talent, just as we are passionate about our sports fest, we put our efforts in the background to create a worthwhile show for you. Rest assured the last thing you have to worry about is being a beast on the playground, which we believe nothing will stop you from being.

A WORD FROM OUR PAST PARTICIPANTS

"Aparajit'18 in words, was nothing but amazing. Team Aparajit puts impeccable efforts to make sure their participants are content and it is not just the team but the culture and crowd of Symbiosis Law School, Noida that comes together into making Aparajit what it is.
It is an overwhelming feeling to witness the director of SLSN putting so much care and concern providing each player a safe and healthy ambiance to celebrate the soul passion that we all bring in. Such dedication lacks in a lot of other colleges that we were priorly a participant of.
A special mention to Sanaa Krishan, who gave us generous help and care. The entire Aparajit experience was amazing and I wish the team luck for this year!"

"The time I spent during the days of Aparajit 2018 were fun, you guys were very well prepared and arrangements were far more appealing. All the round started on time and everything was on schedule which made the playing condition ideal and gave good opportunity to play chess. The organizers were helpful, Sharmishtha Sharma and ParnikSaxena and their other team members really guided me and my team through the formalities. You guys co-ordinated everything well and kept us updated, so the overall experience was satisfactory."

“Aparajit is awesome and not just as an event, in ways where we are provided with an encouraging environment along with a professional set up, which is attractive to all of us participants. I have been to various other sports events organized by different colleges, but none of them were as satisfactory or as effectively executed as Aparajit. The hard work and support that Team Aparajit provides is utterly impressive. As a player, it is a big relief before stressful matches. The team working for Aparajit were extremely dependable and a dedicated background support, on their toes to solve any mid-event crisis easing it for their participants throughout the event. Lastly, I’d like to convey my gratitude for giving me and my team a well sought platform to showcase our passion at Aparajit’18.”
