Cancer incidence is rising continuously at a very high speed. Every year 15 lakhs new cases of cancer are detected and about 8 lakhs cancer patients die. Good news about cancer is that 40-50% cancers in India can be prevented by adopting healthy life style and 50-60% of cancers can be detected at an early stage, when they are completely curable.
Cancer prevention and early detection is only possible by public awareness. Dharamshila Cancer Foundation And Research Centre is a NGO dedicated to the cause of cancer since 1990.
Training and Placement Cell & Social Welfare Cell in association with Dharamshila Cancer Foundation And Research Center has organised a Seminar on Cancer Awareness on December 29, 2018 from 12:45pm - 02:30pm.
Dr. Suversha Khanna, Founder President, Dharamshila Cancer Foundation and Research Centre (a Non Governmental Organisation)

Non-availability of Comprehensive Cancer Care Facility in North India and total negative attitude towards Cancer by all concerned at that time was not acceptable to her.
To change the Cancer scene in North India, Dr. Suversha registered a NGO- Dharamshila Cancer Foundation and Research Centre in 1990 and commissioned North India's first Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre in 1994. To address the acute shortage of trained oncologists, nurses, technicians and other support staff for providing quality care, she introduced various teaching and training programs in the hospital.
Being very passionate about quality care, Dr. Suversha became an NABH assessor in 2006 and ensured Dharamshila Cancer Hospital became the first NABH Accredited Cancer Hospital of India in 2008. For increasing awareness on Cancer Prevention and Early Detection, she has organized and delivered thousands of public lectures in various schools, colleges, Rotary clubs etc. She has propagated a work culture based on dedication, determination and perseverance to fight and win the battle against Cancer. To save precious lives being lost due to non-availability of Fully HLA Matched bone marrow donors, Dr. Suvershaestablished India's first BMT Centre, for doing Haploidentical Bone Marrow transplants with half match donors, with success rates at par with European and American Centers.
Dr. Suversha is a well-known philanthropist, who has received several awards including First Vijay Gujral Foundation Award, Scroll of Honour Award, Exemplary Service Award, Human Care Award of the Millennium, Millennium award to intellectuals and thinkers, Talented ladies award for human care and services women achiever award, outstanding 50 women in Health care and accolades for her great contribution in the field of oncology.

Training and Placement Cell, Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA has organised 'Seminar on Law and Language' by Hon'ble Mr. Justice Dama Seshadri Naidu, Judge, High Court of Kerala on September 22, 2018.
BACKGROUND
Words are the essential tools of the law. In the study of law, language has great importance; cases turn on the meaning that judges ascribe to words, and lawyers must use the right words to effectuate the wishes of their clients. It has been said that you will be learning a new language when you study law, but it's actually a bit more complicated.
There are at least four ways in which you encounter the vocabulary of law. First, and most obvious, you will be learning new words that you probably have not encountered before. Second, and a bit more difficult, some recognizable words take on different or new meanings when used in the law. Malice, for example, when used in the law of defamation, does not mean hatred or meanness; it means "with reckless disregard for the truth." Third, there are words whose meaning expands, contracts or changes, depending on the context or the place in which it is used. In one context (divorce, for example), a person may be considered a "resident" of a state if she has lived there for 6 months. In another context (getting a driver's license) a person may be considered a "resident" after just a few days. Fourth, there are words that have come to signify large bodies of law or legal doctrine, and act as shorthand terms for complex concepts. The terms "unfair competition," "due process of law," "foreseeable," and "cruel and unusual punishment" are a few examples. These terms have been subject to interpretation by judges in many cases over long periods of time, and there is little hope of finding a clear and concise definition that can serve in all contexts.
Finally, students need to develop a heightened respect for linguistic precision. Because the meaning of words is so crucial to the craft of lawyering, students will be expected to use words carefully and precisely. Once you have learned the legal meanings of words, you are expected to use them with precision. Substituting one for another can result in serious errors and misunderstandings. The legal meanings of words constitute the common language of lawyers and judges, who rely on this language to communicate efficiently and effectively.

The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code though provides for faster and definitive resolution to deal with distressed or failed businesses compare to erstwhile Sick Industrial and Companies Act, 1985 and the Companies Act, 1956 (now stands repealed), it does not address potential tax issues that may arise as a result of resolution plan*. (Rekha Bagry, Neelu Jalan, 'Insolvency and the Tax Conundrum', Tax Guru, available online at https://taxguru.in/corporate-law/insolvency-tax-conundrum.html) In other words, the transactions undertaken as a part of the resolution process under Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 could result in taxes, and it may derange the deal financials, thus making the resolution process less efficient and effective. To know and understand the arbitration process in India including introduction to the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Act, 2015 and its applicability, Proposed amendments to the Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill, 2018, Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA in collaboration with Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. has organised Seminar on Recent Developments in Arbitration Regime in India on July 14, 2018.
BACKGROUND
The Union Cabinet on March 07, 2018 approved the Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill, 2018 ("Bill"). The Bill aims to amend the Act to improve institutional arbitration by establishing an independent body to lay down standards, make the arbitration process more party friendly, cost effective, and to ensure timely disposal of arbitration cases.
Highlights of the Bill: The Bill has proposed to allow parties to directly approach arbitral institutions designated by the Supreme Court for international commercial arbitration and in other cases the concerned High Courts, for the appointment of arbitrators. The Bill proposes to amend sub section (1) of Section 29-A to exclude international arbitrations from the bounds of timeline, and to amend the timeline to make an arbitral award in other arbitrations i.e. the award shall be made within 12 months from the completion of the pleadings of the parties.
Formation of The Arbitration Council of India: The Bill provides for creation of an independent body namely the Arbitration Council of India ("ACI") to grade arbitral institution and accredit arbitrators by laying down norms, and take all such steps as may be necessary, to promote arbitration, conciliation, mediation and other ADR Mechanism.
The ACI shall be a body corporate and shall maintain an electronic depository of all arbitral awards. The Chairperson of the ACI must be a person who has been a Judge of the Supreme Court or Chief Justice or Judge of any High Court or any eminent person.
Confidentiality & Immunity to Arbitrators: The bill also proposes the insertion of a new Section 42A in the Act, which will mandate arbitrators and arbitral institutions to keep confidentiality of all arbitral proceedings except the award. A proposed Section 42B seeks to protect arbitrators from suits or other legal proceedings, for any act or omission, done in good faith in the course of arbitration proceedings.
Applicability of The Amendment Act: With the proposed insertion of Section 87 in the Act, the legislature also seeks to clarify the issues surrounding the applicability of the Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Act, 2015 ("Amendment Act"). The bill proposes that unless parties agree, the Amendment Act shall apply only to arbitral proceedings, which commenced on or after the date the Amendment Act, came into force.

Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA in association with School of Law, University of Leeds, UK has organised a Seminar on the Rights of Persons in Flight: Protection of Refugees and Migrants in International Human Rights Law on February 07, 2017 between 10:00am -" 12:15pm.
BACKGROUND
What kind of legal protections do refugees and migrants enjoy under international human rights law? The flight of people from one country to another gives rise to different forms of national and international regulation depending on legal distinctions between migrants, refugees and internally displaced people, irregular and regular migrants, and civilians and non-civilians. This presentation will critically discuss those distinctions and assess the compatibility of some of their interpretations with international human rights law and international humanitarian law. International courts and human rights mechanisms have recognised the non-static nature of various concepts central to international refugee law, such as -persecution- and membership in particular -social groups-. Nevertheless, conceptual progress can be disrupted by certain recent bi-lateral and multi-lateral agreements, including between the EU and third countries that show a significant degree of flexibility towards blanket returns of refugees to third countries. To the extent that blanket returns jeopardize effective protection of the rights of refugee populations, their compatibility with fundamental principles of international human rights law and international refugee law, such as the principle of non-refoulement, is questionable.

Competition Law in India is an evolving area and relatively young. There is a need for academicians, practising economists and competition enforcers to come together to discuss emerging issues, specifically relevant to the Indian context. Moreover, anti-competitive practices of Enterprises can lead to penalties as high as 3 times annual profit or 10% of annual turnover for each year of non-compliance!
In this background, Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA has organised Seminar on \'Competition Policy: What is the Correct Balance of Law and Economics?\' by Emeritus Professor Richard Whish QC (Hon), Kings College London on November 11, 2016. The timings are 10:00am -" 12:00noon.

Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA has organised a Seminar on -Business and Human Rights- on November 07, 2016 by Mr. Kevin Smith. The timings are 12:30pm -" 02:00pm.
OVERVIEW
-Human rights law- has long been the responsibility of states. However, we only need to look at the headlines, from Bhopal to Rana Plaza, to see how businesses can and do have an impact on human rights through their activities. What are the obligations of businesses in relation to human rights? Where are these set out, and how can they be enforced? How can businesses make amends when they are shown to, or believe they may have, negatively impacted the human rights of their stakeholders?
These questions are the subject of considerable ongoing debate, and they raise critical issues for lawyers, both as advisors to businesses and in the context of managing their own firms. Doing -the right thing- need not carry a financial cost, though: rather, for lawyers and businesspeople alike, a knowledge of this subject area can be a valuable commercial asset: there is a compelling -business case- for business and human rights.
This lecture is aimed at any students interested in commercial law, human rights, or the intersection and relationship between the two.
LECTURE OUTLINE
The Seminar will consist of three parts:
Mr. Kevin Smith recently left Clifford Chance LLP-s litigation group, after four years practising in London. Alongside a general commercial litigation practice, Kevin specialised in Public International Law, and advised a range of multinational companies on Business and Human Rights issues. He has presented internationally on this subject, including leading training on behalf of the charity Advocates for International Development in India and Kenya in 2016.
In 2017, Mr. Kevin will join Farris, Vaughn, Wills & Murphy LLP in his hometown of Vancouver, Canada, where his practice will include constitutional and public law matters, including in the areas of human rights, aboriginal, and environmental law.
Mr. Kevin completed his undergraduate degree at Princeton University, and his law degree at Oxford.
